Fremont, California has a lot of things going for it; sunshine, fresh air, close to the sea, etc. But one thing that many people don’t realize is that Fremont was the first city in California to begin shooting and producing movies. Who would have known? Other cities quickly learned from Fremont and took over the film industry, but truth be told, it all started in Fremont. So while there’s film history to learn in Fremont, there are also other museums and events that attract visitors.
Here are a few of them:
Niles Essanay Silent Film Museum
The Niles Essanay Silent Film Museum tells the story of making films before Hollywood took over the industry. You can enjoy the whole experience when you watch one of the silent movies that are shown there. The building itself is very interesting as well, as it used to be the Edison Theater, from the year 1913. Along with the building and films, the museum houses antique cameras, original movie posters and film memorabilia.
Vallejo Adobe used to belong to the Mission of San Jose. It is the house that was built in 1842 for the mission administrator to make his home in. You can’t go inside, but it’s pretty cool to see what it looks like on the outside. The adobe is a good addition to any daytrip to the surrounding California Nursery Historic Park or to the quaint Niles district.
Niles Farmers’ Market
If you want to skip the supermarket lines, prices and produce, take time for a walk-through at the Niles Farmers’ Market. You’ll find the freshest of local fruit, vegetables and regional products. The colorful market includes tables of pies as well as homemade soaps.
Olive Hyde Art Center and Gallery
In 1940 an art gallery opened and in the 1960s, the Olive Hyde Art Center and Gallery was established in the area that was once the home of the Ohlone Indians. Later that area became home to Mission San Jose. It is the goal of this public art gallery to support local artists and encourage them with a place to showcase their work. Even if you have been there before, keep in mind that the exhibits change regularly, so you’re sure to see something new!
Parks and Adventures
Everyone loves beautiful lakes and Lake Elizabeth will not disappoint. The 40-acre lake is in the middle of Fremont, California’s version of Central Park. You can enjoy water sports, paddleboats, fishing, hiking and picnics or you can play a few rounds of golf or games of tennis. If that’s not exciting enough for you, then hop over to the Aqua Adventure Waterpark, where the whole family can take a splash. Head for the lap pool or waterslides, but if floating down a river is your thing then that is available too.
There’s so many things to keep you busy that you might forget that you need some extra money! Montana Capital Car Loans in Fremont is available to help you get back on your feet and keep you going with extra cash in your pocket.
